ICT Mela

Virinchi College successfully hosted ICT Mela 5.0 from December 5 to December 7, 2024, at its Kumaripati campus in Lalitpur. This vibrant three-day event brought together students, tech enthusiasts, and industry leaders to celebrate innovation, creativity, and the transformative power of technology.

The mela was a true showcase of talent, with students presenting groundbreaking projects such as the Flood Warning System, Aqua Bot, Jarvis Chatbot, Pet Feeder, Solar Tracker, Smart Home, and Greenhouse systems. These innovations demonstrated how IoT, robotics, and AI can address everyday challenges and improve lives.

Visitors enjoyed thrilling competitions, including the Robo Ramp Race, Robo Soccer, Squid Game, and an E-Sports Tournament, while also exploring interactive exhibits that brought technology to life. Adding to the excitement, winners of the UI/UX Design Competition, held on December 1, 2024, were honored at the event, celebrating their creative solutions to real-world problems.

This year, the event was elevated by strong partnerships. eSewa, as the payment partner, offered exclusive promo codes and discounts, making transactions seamless for participants and visitors. Pathao, the ride partner, ensured convenient transportation, while Dish Home supported the event as the Internet Partner, providing reliable connectivity throughout. ICT Samachar, as the media partner, played a key role in amplifying the event’s reach, helping Virinchi College inspire the next generation of tech enthusiasts.

Over the years, the ICT Mela has become more than just an event—it’s a movement. It continues to empower students to innovate, solve real-world problems, and showcase their talent to a wider audience, making it a must-attend celebration for anyone passionate about technology.

The fourth edition of ICT Mela, hosted at Virinchi College from Poush 12 to Poush 14, 2080, proved to be bigger and better than ever, surpassing the high standards set by its predecessors. Tech enthusiasts, students from diverse institutions, and industry professionals gathered in droves to witness innovation, creativity, and the future of ICT come alive.

The mela opened with an awe-inspiring demonstration of a robotic marvel, setting the tone for a three-day extravaganza filled with cutting-edge projects, interactive displays, and engaging competitions. Over 6,000 visitors explored the event, experiencing firsthand the ingenuity of Virinchi BICT students and drawing inspiration from their groundbreaking ideas. The event was inagurated by Mayor of Lalaitpur Metropolitant City, Mr Chiri Babu Maharjan. 

Attendees were captivated by projects that showcased technological solutions to real-world problems.

The Celestial Space exhibit transported visitors to a galactic realm, while the Stereoscopic Corridor created mesmerizing depth illusions with LED lighting. These attractions drew significant attention and added a unique experiential layer to the event.

The third edition of ICT Mela was bigger and better than previous editions. From Jan 27 to Jan 29, 2023 students from different educational institutions and ICT industrialist converged at Virinchi College ICT Mela to witness the innovative projects, play tech games and other attractions. A SCRAPIE robot inaugurated the mela. More than 4200 visitors explored, played and enjoyed the mela, a platform for young innovative talents of Virinchi BICT to showcase their skills and inspire the next generation of tech enthusiasts.

Face detection device choosing the lucky prize winner among visitors, Self-Balancing robot, Smart Mirror where visitors could take photos, Human Following robot, Car simulator, Smart Parking and line detection vehicle were new attractions to the event.

Celestial space (giving the feel of being in galaxy), stereoscopic corridor (led light giving depth perspective), interactive hologram (3D image projected to speak with human), 8x8 Led cube all drew special attention of the visitors.

Students from various schools and colleges competed in Robo Ramp Race 2.0 tournament with their own crafted robot cars in an off-road track built by RRR team of Virinchi. During the mela, friendly games were organized and later on 13th February the tournament took place in 100+ ft. track with various difficulties and obstacles including zipline and surveillance monitored tunnel that gave thrilling experience to participants and audiences.

After a year gap due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Virinchi College organized its second editoin of ICT Mela 2.0 on April 21 till April 23, 2022. It was a 3-days exclusive event conducted at Virinchi College premise. This year ICT Mela was way more different than the first one with 20+ ICT solutions created by BICT students for various day-to-day household and corporate problems, from hand gesture controlled car to automatic plant watering system, home automation to foot piano, smart bin to water level monitoring system , firefighting robot to attendance system, buzz maze wire to smart mirror. Smart Mirror was made for the first time and exhibited in the country.

Major attractions included ROBO RAMP RACE where 10+ schools participated in an 80 ft track with various obstacles. Visitors took the mesmerizing experience of INFINITY MIRROR ROOM. For the first time, a squid game was organized among the visitors where the winners won cash prize of Rs.13,000. Other attractions included holographic displays, large sized infinity mirror cube, drone photo-shoot, live music and food stalls. In the span of 3 days around 2,700 visitors experienced the event.

During the event various workshop and training were also conducted for the visitors by the students. From short training on finding vulnerabilities to Jarvis OS and UI/UX workshops were conducted. In the meantime, a panel discussion was conducted on the second day of event on the topic “Championing ICT Innovation through Academia” among famous ICT and engineering professionals and intellectuals from various private and government organizations of the country. Program was moderated by our program director Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma. The post-event exhibition was held for two weeks for the visitors.

Virinchi College organized ICT Mela 1.0 on Feb 7, 2020. It was a one-day event that was mainly focused on exhibiting ICT solutions created by our BICT Students for diverse problems. Other attractions of the event included live music, digital gaming, and ICT Quiz. Students from 8 different colleges took part in ICT Quiz.

Around 400 visitors including parents, students from various colleges, and professionals from various IT companies attended the events. This first version of the event was more focused on presenting the software solutions developed by students of various semesters.
